St. Ambrose Catholic School

Extended Day Care Program Information

Introduction

St. Ambrose School offers an extended day program on days when school is in session. For more details, please see the current parent/student handbook. Parents must sign their children in/out when they are being placed in/released from the program at the beginning and end of the school day, respectively.

The day-to-day operation of the program is the responsibility of the Director in consultation with the school principal. The Director, with the approval of the school principal, makes organizational decisions. Ultimately, final responsibility for the program rests with the school principal.

Sponsorshop

St. Ambrose Catholic School, in cooperation with St. Ambrose Catholic Parish, sponsors the Extended Day Program. The Office of Catholic Schools and St. Ambrose Catholic School administration formulates policies jointly.

Program

A flexible program of recreation, arts and crafts, indoor games, and quiet time for homework, study and/or rest is provided

Registration

All students in the program must have a registration form and emergency form on file for Extended Day. These forms will be mailed to parents or brought home by all students during the first week of school. There will be a non-refundable registration fee of $35.00 per family. Children not registered in the program can not be accepted. It is recommended that all students be registered for this program. This ensures that all children are able to be well supervised in case of an emergency.

The Extended Day Program begins the second week of school. It will operate on all scheduled school days, except: the Wednesday before Thanksgiving; the day before the Christmas holiday; the day of the Science Fair; Holy Thursday; and the last day of school. This includes early dismissal days unless otherwise noted. The program closes a 6:00 p.m.

Afternoon Program 3 - 6 pm
Early Dismissal Days 11:30 am (or 2:00 pm) - 6 pm

General Notes

Inclement Weather: In case of delayed openings, the morning Extended Day Program session will open one hour before the announced opening time. On days when there is an early dismissal due to inclement weather, children must be picked up as soon as possible, and no later than two hours after the early school closing.

Signing In/Out: Students attending the morning Extended Day Program session must be signed in by a parent, indicating the time of arrival. Children attending the afternoon program must be signed out by a parent indicating the time of departure, and must be picked up by 6:00 pm. If someone other than the parent is to pick up the child, the Director must be informed via a written note sent with the child. This person must show an ID before any student will be released to him/her. The Extended Day Program is not responsible for children before they are signed in the morning or after they are signed out.

Cost: Generally the fees are $6.00 per child per hour. There is a reduction in the rate for multiple children from one family. Parents are charged for the full hour of care provided and NOT a portion of an hour. Payments may be made by either cash or check. There is a $25.00 charge for each check returned by a bank.

Parents are requested to be prompt when picking up their children. A late fee is charged of $1.00 per minute for each minute after 6:00 pm; $5.00 per minute after 6:30 pm.

Snacks: During the afternoon session, a nutritious snack will be provided for each child at no additional cost. Parents are asked to notify the school in writing of any food allergies, since the school is providing the snack. If parents prefer, children may bring a snack from home. On 11:30 dismissal days, students should bring their lunch.

Staffing: The staff includes an Extended Day Director and Extended Day aides. The student/staff ratio is 10/15 students per staff member. The morning program will be limited to 15 students. Each staff member meets or exceeds the educational qualifications recommended by the county and state.
