ALL SHOES MUST HAVE NON-SCUFF SOLES. Please do a scuff test on tile floors. If the shoes leave black scuff marks on the school floors, the shoes cannot be worn in the school. Save your receipt so you can return the shoes in case they mark the floors in the school. Boys: Black or brown loafer, topsider, or tied oxford dress shoes. No mountain or camping style boots or soccer shoes are allowed. Girls: Black, brown or navy loafer, saddle shoe, topsider, or tied oxford dress shoes. Plain shoes with a single strap are also allowed. The soles should not be slick. No boots, boot shoes, or high-top shoes are permitted. Mountain or camping style shoes are also not acceptable. Heels should be no higher than 1 ½ inches. SHOES WITH THE SUMMER UNIFORM: When the summer uniform in being worn, students may wear sneakers or tennis shoes. These should be a simple style, clean, and should not have brightly colored laces. Gray T-shirt with the St. Ambrose logo and navy blue loose fitting knit shorts with the school logo are worn on warm days. Shorts should be no shorter than three inches above the knee. On cold weather days, navy blue sweat pants and navy blue sweatshirt with the school logo are worn. Seventh and eighth graders may wear optional navy blue mesh shorts and a navy nylon running suit, both with the school logo. Sneakers or tennis shoes are worn with the P.E. uniform. These should be a simple style. "Spirit Gear" silk screened with the school name (available through the school office) may be worn on days when the student has P.E. Hair should be well groomed, styled conservatively, and appropriate for academic purposes. Dyed, spiked hair, tails, shaved heads, or bizarre haircuts or hairstyles are not permitted. The teacher or principal may request a haircut if the length or style is determined to be inappropriate. Boys: Hair should be trimmed above the collar and out of the eyes. Girls: Hair should be away from the eyes. Ribbons and other hair accessories must be appropriate to wear to school. Jewelry: Boys may not wear earrings. Only religious jewelry such as medals or crosses may be worn. Girls may wear small post or small ring style earrings. Make-up: Make-up is inappropriate for any grade level and is not permitted in school. Clear or natural color nail polish/enamel is acceptable. All other fingernail polish may not to be worn at school. General Neatness: Shirts and blouses are to be tucked in. Sleeves may not be rolled up.
