St. Ambrose Catholic School

Bio: Mrs. Barbara Dalmut

October 2007

Mrs. Barbara Dalmut is enjoying her eighth year of teaching at St. Ambrose. After six years in the fifth grade, Mrs. Dalmut moved to the 8th grade homeroom last year. She teaches 7th and 8th grade religion and US history, as well as the 8th grade literature class.

Mrs. Dalmut became a student this summer, enrolling in the Catholic School Leadership Master's degree program at Marymount University. She previously earned a bachelor's degree in Social Science Education as well as a law degree from the University of Georgia. After practicing environmental law with the federal government, she devoted her time to raising her family.

Mr. and Mrs. Dalmut have been married for 29 years, and are parishioners at St. Raymond of Penafort Parish in Springfield. Their two eldest children have graduated from college and live and work in the metro area. Their daughter Beth is a senior at Princeton University, and their youngest daughter Theresa (a St. Ambrose graduate) is a junior at Bishop Ireton High School.

Mrs. Dalmut is a strong advocate of Catholic education. Her four children have all attended Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria, where Mrs. Dalmut currently serves on the Board of Governors. She supports Louverture Cleary School, a Catholic secondary school in Haiti, and has sponsored several events to help raise money for their school.

Crocheting and reading are two of Mrs. Dalmut's favorite pastimes. She is the faculty sponsor of Crochet USA, a service club for middle school students who are working together to make blankets for the soldiers in National Military Hospital in Bethesda.
